My daughter's Taurus doesn't have the CD changer option but my buddy has a 96 SHO with the CD controls in the radio.
Apparently the changer has been removed but inspection of the console and trunk shows no evidence of where the changer was or should be.
Anyone know?

I see from your profile that it's a 96. Some of those did not come with the CD control buttons on the radio. If it doesn't have auto climate control now, it would be a pain to add in that SHO radio. I think if you find a stock replacement radio for a 97-99 with manual climate controls, it will plug in and control the CD changer (which you'll also have to add). I also saw that it is a Vulcan engine, which is either a G or GL model. I don't think those had the option for a CD changer.

Not a big deal though, I added one to my 97. I bought it on Ebay new, and it came with the cable to plug into the radio control unit (it's a silver box under the carpet on the left rear wheelwell). Installation was simple, but I mounted mine on the underside of the rear speaker shelf.

Brad, is there any way that you could figure out if a CD-compatible radio could be added to control the changer?

yes...

im not really sure what anaab was trying to say...was the sho missing the changer or the car you want to add one too?

Either way....look at the radio in the car you want to add the changer too...if it has a cd button, great, buy a changer and plug it in. If you dont have a cd button, then go on ebay, and buy a stock radio that has the cd button as well as a changer and you be all set.

Thanks for the replies. I only noted my daughter's Taurus to indicate that this post was NOT related to that car.
The question was from a friend who has a '96 SHO. The radio has the CD button but we couldn't find the changer or any evidence (unused wiring connector, hole in the trunk carpeting, stuff like that) of where it should be.
I didn't want to start pulling up carpeting or any of those one time (I know they can be re-used but they're never quite the same) plastic fasteners until we knew where to start looking.
I was afraid that someone had replaced the radio in the past but it sounds like the SHO should have had the CD from birth.

Thanks again, Al

I just recently added a CD Changer to my system. The tires should be somewhere by the antenna wire on the drivers side of the trunk. It should be there somewhere, it would be hard to take those wires out.

Taking the carpet out is no big deal. There are a few screws to loosen and you pull it out. Once you get everything out, you should be able to find the wires. It all goes back together really easy.
