ive tried searching and im either stupid or cant find the answer, there are tons of questions regarding going up in size of rim but none about going down....i am looking for a set of studded tires for my 2000 taurus there are tons of 15" tires but hard to find studded 16's(at least around here for a decent price) can i install 15" rims in place of my 16" mags?

IIRC, most 2000 models can accept the 15 inch rims, but later 2000 production models cannot.
That's when they upgraded to larger brakes.:)

well i was able to find some good priced 225/60/16 studs which was only 10cm bigger than my 215/60/16's since they are now studded snow tires for the 2 months or less we have snow around here i dont think the size is to much different to worry about.

thanks for your help

what means early 2000? does it mean model 2000 will accept 15 inch rims, but model 2002 won't. is it right?
or should i understand year 2000 devided by half where january model 2000 fit 15" rims and december model 2000 won't.

i plan to buy 15 inch rims off of 1998 Taurus (205/65-15) for 2000 model with oem 215/60-16.

What size are on the car now??? If it has 16's then it's a good bet 15's won't fit, ya think?

originally trim changed on 2000. prior were 15 inch rims, since 2000 - 16 inch. however, what i got from durasel, the reasoin for 16 inch were elarged brakes (disks, calipers, some part) but entering year 2000... or better to say, starting to manufacture model 2000, old stock was cleared up and prior to somewhat April - June, 15 inch wheels should fit 2000 model.

tonight i will drive to the guy to try to mount front wheel. i will check what month my car was manufactured and post results here.

kind of neat detail.
