I have a 99 taurus w/ check engine light.. stopped at auto zone and the code read a cam sensor error.
If i buy a replacement sensor is it easy to replace myself? Do I have to right sensor here to start?

No, that is the IAC valve that controls idle speed. What was the exact code? P0340?

Not totally obvious from the pic, but I am guessing you have a Vulcan? If so, replace the syncro assy along with the sensor. Likely the "tang" broke off and damaged the sensor.

It is where the distributor used to be in pre 96 Vulcans. Look down just to the pass side and to the rear of the throttle body. It is kind of burried, and has a wire run kind of covering it up. Looks hard to replace, but really isntthat bad. Be sure to follow the alignment instructions for the new unit.

Check the battery voltage with engine running before anything else! If it is less than 14V is a bad alternator.
