What model years used coil-on-plug and was it only on tecs? Also, which tec model year was the pcv moved from down in front of the uim back toward driver strut tower area? And lastly, what year needed CAN capable code reader?

Regarding COP:

It was used on 'tecs only except for the Gen3 V8 SHO. On 'tecs, first in 2000, then again '04-05.

No info on the other elements, unfortunately.

im not sure of teh exact time that the pcv valve got moved but my 2000 engine had it located deep in the valley of the engine and my 04 (same as 05) engine has it logated in the rear valve cover. as far as i know the duratec never had a remote mounted pcv valve...
as for the CAN bus capable reader i am not 100% sure but 07 for sure used it my guess would be 04 and up

PCV on the Tec moved to the "I can actually see it and get to it" position in 04.

Good question on when Ford went to CAN...... at least up to 05, and I think 06/07 on the Taurus, it was a hybird CAN/SCP/PWM system (not including the weird audio system network), with the codes / PIDs, etc coming out in CAN format. I dont think Ford went to a 100% CAN thru the whole in car network until 08 MY. How far back is a CAN compatable scan tool needed? I am thinking 01 or 02? I dont remember for sure if the wifes 01 Vulcan (totaled in 04, but saved her life in the process) was CAN output or not.

Vash, i didnt mean a remote mounted pcv. Guess i should have said drivers rear valve cover or firewall area. Sorry for the confusion. Or maybe: When did it go from inaccessible to accessible lol?!

Yup, horizontally. Sticking out of the cam cover toward the driver side fender.

CAN is an interesting discussion. My '04 Mazda6 has it. I'm not sure what year it was required on all vehicles. However, with all the manufacturers going sensor crazy, CAN would not surprise me it was required a few years ago. Can anybody confirm they may have it their '04 Taurus / Sable ?

The decal (like OBD-II) may be stuck underneath the hood.

See my post above.... 04 was a hybird CAN system. I believe 08 was the first year that CAN protocol was required for the entire system.
