I will be putting a subwoofer in the trunk some time soon. I was hesitating to buy a 12 inch subwoofer because I was worried that it will take up too much space. However, there exist apparently 12 inch sub enclosures that are low enough that they can be pushed all the way into the rear of trunk, next too the seats (it gets lower there). For example, the Atrend E12S. So I am looking for the speaker right now. Something for $70 or less (I have a relatively low spec amp)

Amp specs: 200wats RMS power at 4ohms or 300wats RMS power at 2ohms and 2% THD. There is a low pass (30-160hz cut off) filter and a high pass filter (16-60Hz) for that channel.

Right now I am looking at:

1. Infinity 1262w

power handling: 100-300 watts RMS
frequency response: 23-400 Hz

2. Pioneer TS-W303R

power handling: 50-250 watts RMS
frequency response: 20-180 Hz

Both can be bought for around $60-70 with shipping. Does anyone know anything about these or other subs that fit my specs?

I'd take the Infinity, or a similar Boston G2 series subwoofer.

your right to look at the infinity the way you did and say it. if i did not know any thing about infinity i would say get it but since i have the knowledge of the cones basically falling out of infinity's because of lack of glue or glue strength is weak. just thought i would say some thing before you just jump on it. i would hate to spend the $70 on a sub and find out there crap later on . i will see what i can find you for around 70 bucks but first are you looking for some thing that will get loud or some thing that is more a bass presence to the music. brand like Boston are good same with jbl i think the gt5 jbl is in your price range on e-bay. that is one with a higher then average spl and can go in multiple boxes. also are you looking for a shallow mount design? i happen to know were to get some sealed boxes that will fit a 10 right up against the back of the seat. the air space is about .85 for one ten. i think shipped to my door there about 40 bucks box cost 26.99 or close to it if that was for a reg air space ten. not a shallow mount any ways what kind of music do you prefer is another indicator of what you will like i like every thing from rap to alternative rock. not so much rap any more kinda went down hill after a wile. it seem all they rap about is the size of their rims and wads of money. any ways this should help 10 and 12 are great for reproducing a lot of music. i even seen the kicker cvr 8's do as well as 2 x 12 in a large sealed box. but like i said what are you in to not me.

if i did not know my kappa's were made the same way as the reference series i would not be saying this. very hard to tell over long term use they fall apart. this is were i got to stick up for the guy i quoted. he made a good choice like i did but i got bunk in the end cause it hard to tell. the speaker has the good spec and all and sound good but over long term use the cone surround breaks free from the basket leaving a mess. any ways i will get back as soon as possible i am on here about every day.

Here is a lot of subs all at different prices all on e bay but all compatible with your amp in ohms and wattage. if you got a question about a certain one please ask. I am not sure if they all will work with the box I showed either but if you have time try to match one up if you want it. Btw the box is on sale right now.

I'm currently running two Alpine Type-E's in a sealed box connected in parallel to a 1000x1 watt Phoenix Gold amp. It's a decent set-up.

Of course, we all want to get tight deep loud bass. However, since on a small budget this is not always possible, my preference is first to get accurate, deep bass, followed by loudness. I was reading on crutchfield.com that a single 12 inch sub works best for this. I want to get it from amazon.com, preferably because I got some of their gift coupons.

I run a 300W MTX in my van, which is nice because it is a self contained unit. It has its own 300w amplifier, all contained in a standalone enclosure. I don't remember what I paid for it, but it also has a remote controller so that you can adjust it.

i would try to get two of these but one will be fine. of couse they are talking 1000 watts rms at crutchfield to get the accurate bass lol's. out of one 12 inch sub just so you can feel it presence over the motor / road feel aka rough roads. do not get me wrong two of these you can feel it is a lttle low with one thought. btw if you got enough cupon you can run one or two of those. btw the same sub is sold at abcwarehouse.com for 39.99 but in store only so unless you know some one in michigan indiana or ohio forget it. they are good subs for budget systems. btw that sub is 55 with free shipping at amazon

I ended up buying Re Audio SRX 300 watt dual coil four ohm sub. It turns out that my amplifier can provide 200watts at 4 ohms or 300watts(!) at 2 ohms. Moreover, if you wire a 4 ohm dual coil sub in parallel, the amp will work at 2 ohms. So decision turned out to be a very good one. I have matched a sub to my amp perfectly, and run it at 300 watts. I also got a sealed hatchback style enclosure. The sub cost around $100, and enclosure around $40 (with all accessories). It's clearly a quality sub. I am very happy.

I send all frequencies above about 80 Hz to speakers, and below 80Hz to the sub. The head unit equalizer setting is flat, and I boosted sub's bass a little on the amp, and used the amp volume control to turn down the volume of the rears to absolute minimum. I also boosted the highs of the tweeters on my front Infinity Reference speakers by 3dB. I use foobar2000 to enhance all of my mp3 files with the Dolby Headphone effect (made to create surround sound in stereo headphones, but works awesome in cars too) before putting them on CD. This setup creates a good sound stage that makes you feel like you're in a small concert hall. Crisp highs. Deep and tight bass. Wide sound stage. Pretty awesome. I am very happy right now.
