The ball joint on 96-present cars is pressed into the knuckle, with the tapered part in the control arm. The easiest way I've found to get the ball joint separated from the control arm without damaging it is to use a puller made for this, I got mine at Autozone. You'll then have to take the knuckle off, remove the snap ring, and hammer or press out the old ball joint. The new one can be installed with a few light taps of a rubber mallet, the re-install the snap ring.

A while back, there was a seller on Ebay that had two new knuckles, complete with new ball joints and bearings, for $99. You may want to try a search on that. Heck of a lot easier replacing the whole knuckle and not having to mess with the ball joint.

At one time, he had them listed with a buy it now feature. You may want to just contact him and buy them direct, or have him put them up on auction with a buy it now price.
