I am having rough idle problems with my 96 Taurus GL. I have changed the plugs and wires. Changed the front O2 sensor and had the codes reset. After reset it still idles rough and is very sluggish and the engine light flashes. I am at my wits end dealing with this and I would appreciate any advice at all on how to solve this problem.

What codes did you get? I'm wondering why the front O2 sensor when no's 1 and 3 are near the firewall. As those are adjacent cylinders I'd do a compression test .......... :(

I had it done at auto zone. And it said misfire on cylinder #1 and #3 and on one occasion #4 I pulled the plugs and all looked ok except 3 it was fouled badly and packed with what appeared to be unburned fuel residue.

Adjacent? You drive a Chevy?

Adholt, how about the injectors? Could be partially clogged, or have a bad spray pattern.
