Bad News...

I have a Vulcan in a 90 Sable. I made a gruesome discovery today. My front seal on the engine is bad so my car is smoking oil. This leaves me with a few options.

1) Fix the seal and forget about it. (Don't wanna do that)
2) Leave it and kill the Vulcan (Definitely don't wanna do that)
3) Save my money and get a used SHO engine from a junkyard and drop it in there. (Really wanna do that)

Reason I want to do #3 is because my girlfriend is possibly getting a 93 Sable with the 3.8 in it. I will be dammed if she has a faster car than me.

Tell me if I'm crazy or it's a good idea to drop a SHO motor in the Sable.

Since we already know your'e crazy, might as well go for it.
The question is why are you letting your girlfriend buy a 93 Sable when you know about the infamous 3.8L headgasket and Taurus transmission problems.
It just had a new headgasket put in and the tranny is in good shape.

My friend has the 93 Sable, she wants to get rid of it.

Essexes are faster than vulcans?
I thought they were about the same.
I think Gen 1 & 2 Vulcans are slower than an Essex. Both were 140 HP, but the Essex has about 30 more ft/lbs.

The Essex has 215 ft/lbs at 2500 RPM and the Vulcan has 160 at 4000. The Essex will take a Vulcan off the line.

So, about the SHO motor.

The Gen 4 Vulcan has 186 ft/lbs stock.

Sorry for the off-topic...

Anyways... if you are up to it, I'd do the SHO swap - however, you'll obviously have to deal with a new wiring harness and ECM and everything and probably a new transmission.

Nick,

I saw this post over at SHOForum earlier...

http://shoforum.com/showthread.php?t=27130

And then I got to thinking...

A SHO 3.2 w/ATX would be the easiest choice for you, if you're really gonna go through with this. And this is the whole car. Minus the A/C compressor.

Just a thought...

Oh, and the front seal isn't that hard of a fix. A free day, some AutoZone loaners, and a set of jackstands, and you're back in business.

Chicks need to be faster, leave her be!

(That sounded really perverted...)

I don't blame you - I'd be embarrased if my g/f (the one I don't have) had a faster car than me.

I think that would kinda be a turn on.

Of course, it's not the engine that matters, it's the back seat...

My ex-gf has a car that's faster than mine. 1997 Golf 2.0T. Thing runs like a scared cat! Besides, it's fun when it's your turn to drive.

The golf 2.0T is faster than the SHO...I would never have thought that.

Whats the power differences between the 1.8T and the 2.0T?

I was almost in a '97 Golf, base engine though...I didnt accept it form the neighbor though, I'd feel like I would owe her too much...why she wanted to give it to me I dont no...lol

...me too sorry for the off topic, that just hit me by surprise.

I agree with Racer X on the drivetrain/engine.

If you go through with it let me know how it goes, I'm going to be getting into a SHOwagon project in a year or so.

My Taurus murders Omari's Neon all day every day. He seems to like it though
