My son's 98 Taurus (3.0 Vulcan) had the converter seal go bad, or I hope that's what it was, so I yanked the motor and have it on a stand until I get a new seal put in.

What I am wondering is what else should I replace as a kind of preventative maintenance while I have access to everything? This car is foreign to me, I'm a Jeep guy. Anything else these are notorious for?

I am going to replace the gasket on the timing cover and maybe oil pan. I saw a thread once where someone replaced something in the converter, now I can't find it.

Thanks

The Stator Support Bearing is what you are thinking of. It centers the torque converter around the stator support shaft.
