Hmmm, didn't know it could be turned on and off at will. Our '95 does it when putting it in drive, 0mph. Drive the wife nuts sometimes, especially when her arm's on the door.

On a Gen 3, once the key is turned on in the ignition, and all the doors are shut, they will automatically lock. When the ignition is turned off, they unlock. Was this an option, or did it come on all Gen 3's?

Thanks

From the '97 Service Manual. Don't know if it's the same process for gen2s.

Enabling and Disabling

To enable (or disable) the autolock feature, use the following steps or use the enabling and disabling features sequence as described.

1. Enter the five-digit permanent entry code into the keyless entry keypad (14A626).

2. Within five seconds of entering the code, press and hold the 7/8 button on the keypad.

3. Within five seconds of Step 2, and while holding the 7/8 button, press the 3/4 button on the keypad and release it.

4. Within five seconds of Step 3, release the 7/8 button on the keypad.

If the autolock feature is disabled, the horn will chirp once. If the autolock feature is enabled, the horn will chirp once shortly and then a second time with a longer honk when the sequence is completed.

If vehicle is not equipped with keyless entry keypad, the autolock/relock feature can also be disabled and enabled as follows:

1. Make sure the anti-theft system is not armed or triggered, ignition is OFF and all doors and liftgate are closed.

2. Turn the ignition switch from OFF to RUN.

3. Press the door power unlock button 3 times.

4. Turn the ignition switch from RUN to OFF.

5. Press the door power unlock button 3 times.

6. Turn the ignition switch back to RUN within 30 seconds of step 2.

7. The horn should chirp once. If not, wait 30 seconds and repeat steps 1 through 6.

8. Press the door power unlock button.

9. Press the door power lock button.

10. The horn will chirp once if the Autolock feature was deactivated, twice (one short chirp followed by a long chirp) if the Autolock feature was activated.

11. Turn the ignition switch OFF.

12. The horn will chirp once to confirm that you activated or deactivated the Autolock feature.

If u have the autolock feature, does that mean u have a factory security system? or what. Is this an option on a Gen III?

Thanks

I have a 94 Taurus, and it has an owners manual, and it states how to activate the autolock feature, however, I don't have it in front of me right now, if you have an owners manual with your 94 taurus, it should probably be located in the keyless entry system section of them manual.

I looked in my owner's manual ('95 Sable) and this is what it says:

To deactivae autolock featuer:

1. Enter your permanent 5 digit entry code (not user code you may have set)
2. Within 5 seconds, press and hold 7/8
3. Within 5 more seconds, press and release 3/4
4. Release 7/8

To reactivate, repeat instructions for deactivation. Activation of the power door locks, when you turn the courtesy/dome lamps on and off witht he headlight switch or thumbwheel switch, is a normal condition with the autolock feature.
