When should you use a relay switch ot turn something on. I got a rocker switch from walmart turning on my amp and my cd changer is just turned on by the stock radio. In other words, just straight wire from switched source to the unit being turned on. Its a decent sized amp at 200x2 4 ohm. In bridged though to power subs...

You need to use a relay when you want to turn on another accessory when something else kicks on. Example: You want fans to kick on when your amp turns on, so you hook a relay up to the remote turn on line from your hu and then when that comes on, your fans will automatically turn on. It is a good idea to use a relay with cheaper amps. On occasion, when an amp fails, it will draw a large current through the remote turn on wire that could damage your hu.
