Howdy!
New guy here with a pretty complex question, I recently acquired a 2013 Taurus Police interceptor and it got a bad power steering rack (i knew this going into it) I'm just wondering as there are a few junkyards near me that have regular 2013 Taurus with its rack complete, and visually there seems to be no difference. My question is, are there any significant differences that wouldn't make the regular Taurus rack compatible with my PI unit? I plan on doing a inhale/exhale method with my ASbuilt as a backup (FORscan).
Thanks again for the add!

These are for model years 2012 to 2013

Police Police interceptor Part number DG1Z-3504-BR replaces DG1Z-3504-B, DG1Z-3504-E, DG1Z-3504-H, DG1Z-3504-J, DG1Z-3504-NE

Taurus Part number DG1Z-3504-G Replaces DG1Z-3504-AE, DG1Z-3504-C, DG1Z-3504-HE, DG1Z-3504-QE, DG1Z-3504-RE

Same for the model years 2014 to 2015, different part numbers for Police Interceptor and Taurus.

Model years for 2016 to 2019, is a different part number GG1Z-3504-F Replaces GG1Z-3504-B, GG1Z-3504-C , but is for both the Taurus and Police Interceptor.

Looks like Ford finalize the Taurus / Lincoln MKS engineering for model year 2016 to its North American Model end in 2019, MKS in 2016. Dam shame Ford stop selling the Taurus in North America in 2019. Only car left that Ford sells in North America is the Mustang.

It really "Ticks me off" that Ford stopped selling regular big cars and now only sells SUV station wagons or the Mustang. I like a big comfortable sedan with a big engine like the 2011 SHO that's our daily driver. When it comes time to replace it my only choices are Mopar, GM or an import.

That is why what is in the pic is my family sedan. I have '03 Taurus for my daughter, '04 Sable wagon for my daily driver, and '05 Taurus for my grandson to drive in his college internship.
And this Buick, is the last of it's kind. Last was this year '11. Iron block push rod engine, 4 speed tran, column shift. Meets my needs for easy in/out for my wife how has difficulty getting in and out and open seat area which helps me fasten her seat belt. Quiet, comfortable, lots of extras, great mpg, good power. What the car makers sell have moved away from many of us.
Past summer, on a trip, Avis used a SUV to take us from the plane to the car lot, wife had significant difficulty getting in it, and in the rented Malibu similar but difficult getting out.
But I am old and car makers do not care about old folks.

Well, i should probably give an update, I ended up buying a used 2017 Ecoboost Police package rack off of eBay for around 200$, I also purchased an ELM327 tool that uses FORscan (the one they actually link on the website)
i figured since ill be one of the first people to do this replacement by myself (ie no Stealership-level stuff, hopefully), ill keep you updated on what tools ill need/ what things I needed to change and make a DIY tutorial on here!

You will need to lower the rear of the Front sub frame to get the rack out. There are a bouch of You Tube vids out there to see how its done. Sreach on Ford EPAS replacement.
Also not sure if FORScan will let you program the EPAS. If it does be sure to get the config / program from your current EPAS BEFORE you remove anything.

UPDATE:

Looks like FORScan will let you dabble with the EPAS system, HOWEVER, I had to get there free 2 month extended license for me to access it.

I have saved the file and will be starting to replace the rack tomorrow, wish me luck for the road ahead!

Well, late-night update, SUCCESS!!

However, a few things to take away, I bought a 2017 rack for my 2013 car, and the Connections ARE DIFFERENT.
BUT, I managed to track down the correct data connector for it at my local O'Reillys, (STD S2280) is the connector (also used more commonly as an ignition coil connector) and comes prewired with some very stout wiring.

Your gonna have to excuse my MS paint stills, but here's how i wire it.
White with a blue line is gonna be at the top, the coyote tan wire in the middle, and then the green with a white strip on the bottom.
Colorfulness Rectangle Font Tints and shades Electric blue

Other than that the big power wire connector is the exact same but is in the middle vs the edge of the connection box.

Bolt spacing and steering connection are the exact same (albeit the rack had some minor differences that you can tell if you look closely enough, things like the motor housing being a bit different, different screws, etc)

If you're going from a 6th gen rack to a 5th gen, the process will be the same except you use a Volvo-based connector. (WPT-1105) and then wire based on the release (blue part) being on top

my rack was also used but after clearing out the DTC and taking it for a 30 min test drive, i had no codes after scanning again.

Anything significant on replacing the unit itself other than the connector difference?

I had to drop part of the subframe as well as remove the sway bar. I followed this guys instructions
However, I didn't have to reprogram the PSCM like he did. (Due to my unit be used)
I had some new code show up but I believe that's just the old module and new module communicating.

Here's what my old data connection looked like

And after wiring the new plug (I shortened the cable after this, but I don't have a picture of it unfortunately)

I pulled the unit from the passenger side and reinstalled the same way. My 2017 unit has the exact same steering connection it's just a 1/2" or so higher.

Should mention as well, this look me the whole day to do, a lift would be a life saver but it's possible to due those with just a jack and jack stands.
