Hi All, I have a 2001 Taurus SE and I need to replace the fuel pump. I have a lead on a 1999 Taurus fuel tank and it comes with the fuel pump for a good price, and I am wondering if they are the same design (or close enough) to use. I have gone on to Auto-zone.com and they show two gas tanks which look identical to me for the two years (1999 & 2001). The part numbers are almost identical except for the last letter. Does anyone know if there is any real difference that would prevent me from using the 1999 gas tank and/or fuel pump in my 2001 Taurus? I appreciate all the hep and advice.

I would not try it if the catalog does not call for the application. I was just looking into a gas tank for my Gen 3. There are venting differences and who knows what else. The fuel pumps seem to be tied to the engine type and often specific years with in a generation.

You are risking a lot of money and labor if it does not work. It may assemble just fine but if it trips a CEL you won't be happy.

There goes all of your savings and a lot more.
