Rebuilding an alternator is so simple I will do it myself next time. I took my GEN 3 to a shop and he was nice enough to let me watch. It took him all of 10 minutes to rebuild the thing. Took the big bolt off the front and removed the pully. Then he took out the brush assembly and regulator combo. Then he took the bolts out of the housing and seperated the pieces. Replaced the main coil, replaced the bearings, and replaced the diodes. He replaced the brushes (have to) but the regulator was fine so it was reused. Put it back together and charged me like 75 bucks. It made me see stars to think it was that easy and I didn't do it myself and save a bunch!
