I am thinking about buying a new underdrive pulley but want to keep my alternator output due to my audio system. I was wondering if anyone knew where i could get a smaller pulley for it so it would compensate for the slower moving belt and be able to give me the same output before i put the udp on. Any help is greatly appreciated.

This might work... $17.99, overdrives the alternator by 12%.

Alternator Overdrive Pulley

Just keep in mind that the alternator is one of the big HP robbers, so by speeding it back up you are reducing the effectiveness of the UDP.

Well, like I said in another post, the best setup would be a smaller crank pulley (UDP), a smaller alternator pulley (ODP), AND a VAK. The UDP would improve the throttle response and HP/TQ at all rpms (not just WOT.) The ODP would help keep your idle charging capacity up to par. The VAK would help only at WOT or near-WOT.

An alternative setup would be to get larger pulleys for the PS and A/C (UDPs) and augment that with the VAK. The result would be the same either way.

I think we need to put the VAK in the Modification section. We've had lots of questions about it. I believe it's called the Vacuum Accessory Kill, or something of that nature, and it basically shuts off all accessories like the alternator, PS, etc. at WOT for a few seconds. Talk to Paul, SHOZ123, for more info.

For the record the VAK is in operation at or near WOT. And what need is there to underdrive accessories except at or near WOT?

The VAK will at the electrically disable the engine fans (if on), the alternator and the PS (on a GEN 3 SHO) while you are at or near WOT. It then will resume the accessory loads when the throttle is let up. This gives you the full output of the alternator and your other belt driven accessories under ordinary situations.
