Aftermarket Sunroof?

Ok, I really want to put a Sunroof in my car but I'm not sure about it.
Is anyone aware of how much that would cost? Like, an average?

Just wondering...

More than 500, and they are very tricky. I talked to the guy who did my windshield, he says they have a tendency to leak and arent worth the trouble and money.

500 for a pop up, over a grand for a motorized one.

go all the way and dont skimp on the $$$ otherwise they leak.

ASC is the only aftermarket sunroof id even consider.....find a reputable installer that carries this brand.

Alrighty, sounds good. Summers comin and now that I'm so used to my moms sunroof, I feel locked in my bull. Just kinda need that open air and nice sky above me to actually feel "free".

No way, at least not around here. A few years ago my friend had a motorized one put in his grand prix for around $400. It was a good one too, and has never leaked.
i bought my car in 2001 it had an aftermarket motorized moonroof from ASC and it only leaked once and I diagnosed it to be that the sun roof glass had fallen down some so i pushed it up and tightened it. Otherwise it has been good.
I bought my car late in the 2001 model year. So I got everything I wanted except a moon roof. The dealership had one put in in the St. Louis area and had it included on the sticker price. ASC $999. Hasn't leaked at all.
400 for a motorized one is not the norm by any means...seems like a good deal, but not normal. I know almost all the businesses in the area around me and the prices i have quoted are right on the button.
Well I think it was on sale, but I had no idea it was that great a deal. My parents' 2000 Bull has an aftermarket motorized sunroof (we bought it that way last fall). I hope it doesn't give them any problems. I like it, but if I had picked it out, I would've gotten one a little bigger. And I don't really like what they did to the headliner. The headliner is no longer attached to the roof of the car from behind the sunroof. Instead they sort of stretched it out and attached it with these little discs near the rear windows. Kinda hard to describe, I'll have to post picks. I think it's kinda cheap looking though.

these people are supposed to be good as well. They are the oe manufacture for most cars. http://www.webasto.us/home/en/homepage.html
ME and my brother installed a sunroof in his s15 a few weeks back. easy as hell. make a template of the frame, position it, cut the hole with a jigsaw, goop the frame real good, and set overnight. his hasn't leaked yet.

the best part, the roof cost $20 at the wreckers! far off from the $400-$500 estimates here!
you can always just drill some holes in your hood. accomplishes the same thing when it's raining.
Call around to some of your local Ford dealerships and see where they get theirs done. A lot ot dealers will buy bland Taurus fleet cars and then send them off to a local shop to have sunroof and leather added before trying to sell them. Then you have the name of a reputable shop and also a shop who works on a lot of Tauri. Ask the dealer what they pay to have it done too, the shop may give you the same price as they get.
I would put a sunroof in myself but I'm WAY too scared to even attempt that.
I would most certainly screw SOMETHING up.
My friend had one installed (motorized) in his Eclipse for around $550, and to this day (6 years later) it doesn't leak at all.

They make the Grand Prix roof. They charge like $800 for a full motorized "spoiler" type moonroof
Sorry to bump up such an old topic but I'm seriously considering putting in an aftermarket moon roof for my Gen 3.

Anyone do this on their own? Any tips or precautions? How far back from the front windshield should I position the moon roof? Will a standard jig saw work to cut out the roof? And most importantly, other than the interior dome light (which I'll just remove) are there any important wires running through the roof?

I'm considering the aftermarket roof from JW Whitney, anybody have any experience with this?

Thanks.

As said above, ASC is your best bet, and you can't skimp out on money if you are doing this. Drilling a sunroof in a non sunroof car is more than just drilling a hole in the roof. You also have to add support for the frame on top. If you ever notice a Gen3 with and without sunroof, you'll see the top of the car inside a tad lower because of the extra support for rollover situations.

That being said, good luck! If you just want it for looks, there's that sunroof sticker on ebay
