I have owned my 1998 Taurus SE for about 5 years now and have had no accident or have not had anyone hit it. Well the streak ended today. I was at CompUSA and was inside for a total of 5 minutes when I heard my alarm going off. I ran outside to see nothing but my lights flashing. There were no cars around mine since I parked way out and I did not see anyone speeding away. As I walked up to the car I noticed that someone had clipped my driver's side rear bumper. Didn't really hit it but just bumped and scrubbed it enough to rip all the damn paint off. Anyways, I'm pretty pissed and really wished I would have been out there when the a****** tried to pull away. I'll never understand why people are so inconsiderate. It probably will not cost all that much but its the principle of the fact. Heres some pics of the damage.

I have a '98 Taurus SE, I feel for you since I had it scraped and scratched a lot during my 5 year ownership with this car, and I had a few accidents too...

So I know how it feels man
... just to let you know that some of us Taurus owners know that feeling.

Good luck.

Hate to tell ya, pal, but that little biff might cost you a lot more than you presently think...

Get an estimate or two and let us know what the body shop says.

about two years ago I picked up my car from the body shop after having the front bumper repainted after a hit and run. While I was inside going over the paperwork, someone driving away clipped the rear bumper and scuffed the paint, while it's sitting in the body shop's parking lot. Talk about a headache!

Yeah Happy Holidays! I hate people who do that hit and run stuff. A few years back I see a big ole black Caddy do the same thing to an Explorers rear quarter panel outside of Sears. This middle age guy gets out of the Caddy looks at the dent, checks to see if anyone spotted him then the SOB jumps in and drives off. I'm in my car when this happens so I hop out and get the Caddy's plate #. I leave a note on the Explorer's windshield with my phone# and the Caddy's plate #. I let him know I'd be a witness if need be.
The guy in the Explorer calls me up a couple of days later. Turns out the Cops had just arrested the guy driving the Caddy for Drunk Driving when he called in his hit and run. He goes on and says the cops took measurements of his car and compared the paint scaping on both vehicles. The accident investigator says its a real obvious case. Heres the catch......... the hit and run driver of the Caddy was a Judge! I was never contacted by the cops or anyone else. It wasn't even in the papers. I figured the Explorer got his car fixed at the very least tho!

Looks like the bumper cover's still OK, so it should be a matter of removal and repaint, then reinstalling. Most body shops get about $250 for that here on the East Coast.

That sucks man

What Bob said, in fact, they may want to only repaint part of the bumper and blend it in, but then again, maybe not. I would try to get the whole thing repainted though rather than blend it.

So? If they have video cameras pointed at the parking lot or any kind of security, maybe they've got something for the incident that could be used to find out what happened. They should at least know about it in case something happens again.

yeah maybe, because i work at regal nissan just down the street from compUSA so yeah dont know where the gables is but im off of webb bridge in alpha. so yeah

I know its not there fault but they are liable for it its their parking lot and they should have cameras out there. so if someone gets mugged or murdered or raped or something like this they have video evidence.

had my 96 run into in the parking lot a coupld years ago, my alarm alerts me if it was set off while I was gone, and it said it was, so who ever the SOB was, they know they hit my car. no prob, I was able to buff out all the damage, as if it never happened. I want frikken forensics for these cases, we have the paint, we can find them. put them away for life, there is no excuse for that kind of crap
