My Buick uses a Hall Effect sensor and manages charging to only charge the battery as needed. So on my trip, recorded volts and can see how it manages it once it has data to indicate the battery if fully charged and does not charge it at all. Alt runs the car and battery is at rest. Chart is about 2 hours. Shows with that, from time to time it charges it normal = 13.5V for a short time and then lets it rest. I do not know when Ford started using this but my Son's F-150 ('17) uses this system. Others might look at their battery ground cable to see if it has the plastic ring on the cable. Just sharing. Battery life extended as well as energy saving.
However, when the HL is turned on, it goes to normal charge and stays at 13.5V. Keeps your HL at normal brightness.

Interesting. What about the plastic ring on the cable? What does it mean?
A device like in the pic is over the battery cable, maybe the ground cable, maybe the positive cable. It measures current passing the cable and a module keeps track of what the battery is doing.
