We have success :D :D :D

Exterior perimeter lighting, fully functioning keypad, and a slightly louder dinger.

Pics and videos to be posted later today.

BIG thank you to outatyme and thesavo for their help, drawings, and diagrams...couldn't have done it without y'alls help :thumb: :)

You mind if I edit the topic title outatyme?

Make it easy on yourself, get a keypad from a 2001 or newer...get a GEM from an 02-3, and voila lighted entry :)

The biggest pain was getting the GEM c201c connector properly depinned. Dental tools (picks) are highly recommended for this.

The car likes to ding at me whenever I use the parking brake, even in park...same as the 04+, a bit of a downside.

My Parking brake only 'dings' in drive gears. <strike>P</strike> R <strike>N</strike> (D) D 1.
Oh well.

Exactly what vehicle was the GEM 'donated' from?

Fantastic. Glad we could help and the it was a complete success. So now when you unlock with the fob, you puddles, heads, and parking lights illuminate?

i never use my parking brake unless i park on a hill so no worries about the dinging lol

eh depinning isnt a problem, biggest problem for me is finding an 02-03 in a junkyard near by that is self service.

Hmm..daveromanjr just made a good point (since he was working on swapping Gentz's GEM/CJB/fusebox setup)...may be something to do with the fact I'm using a 2000-1 fusebox/CJB with a 2002+ GEM. No self check feature for the parking brake. Hmm...furthur research for later? Possible something I can swap out at a later time...who knows.

The part number for the GEM is 2FIT-14B205-CB from a 03 SE that had remote keyless entry and puddle lamps.

Oh and I learned something new...the sticker that is in the driver's door jamb, above the large grommet that passes wires through your door...that sticker has your vehicle's GEM part number. On the back of the GEM there is a piece of masking tape with the other sticker. I guess when the vehicle is manufactured, 1 sticker is placed in that door jamb.

Whenever I hit unlock: puddles, headlights, parking lights, tail lights, license plate lights and interior lights all turn on...regardless if I have the lightswitch in (O) or (A).

I paid $17 for the GEM from a Self Service LKQ, and I got the keypad from a member here for under $20.

wow i was expecting alot more then that honestly. was the 17 a set price by them or were they being "nice"?

ok classifieds section here i come lol

edit: just went back and read the previous page noticed the 17$ GEM thing sorry about that. so what all is actually involved with this? swapping the keypad and GEM of course and you mentioned the repinning some things, any cutting or soldering? i would prefer not to hack up too much of the factory wiring, even though i do know what im doing (soldering, splicing, etc.)

The LKQ charges $35 for an "ECU" but I told the guy specifically what that I was buying. I didn't want to pay more than $20 and the guy said how does $17 sound, so I proceeded with that.

I did not have to cut or splice any wires using the 2001-7 keypad. I just depinned them, and folded them over the existing wiring for now, wrapping them in electrical tape.

Those diagrams that thesavo and outatyme put together are exactly the ticket you need to make this work on your 2000 :)

Will it cause a problem if you install a 02 + GEM and you don't have puddles? I am pretty sure that is a no.

That won't cause a problem. There are some 02s and 03s that have this GEM but lack puddle lamps.

I wanna do this too. So, to paraphrase 3 pages of research and diagrams:

'02-'03 GEM will go into a '00 car without a problem, so long as the donor GEM is remote keyless equipped. If there is a keypad on the car, the wiring changes slightly within the plug.

Sound right? How do you tell if the donor is equipped with remote keyless?

You are correct so far. The only difference between say an SES (they come standard with remote keyless) and an SEL GEM is the the extra pins that go into c201C connector for the keypad for an SEL. From daveromanjr and Gentz say, the GEM from a car that lacks remote keyless will look drastically different, weigh a lot less, and say "BASE" on it.

To tell if a donor car has remote keyless, you will have to take off the CJB/fusebox/GEM conglomerate. If there is a tear off keypad code, that vehicle has remote keyless entry.

And since you have a 2000, definitely shoot for getting a 01-07 keypad.

Looking at swapping the CJB/Fusebox possibly to possibly correct the dinger going off when I activate the parking brake. Looking at the CJB plugs, C270a and b are identical from 2000-2003, but as usual, the c connector has some differences.

So if my car doesnt have a keypad now, I have to start from scratch with that connector and run one right?

Right like I did. And since you are adding circuits to your door jamb. You might want to take advantage of that and add 2 or 4 more circuits for "future use"

and of course, the 270C is the harder to get to and manipulate of the 3 Central JB connectors. "remove ODB II bracket first "

Here is a digest of the discrepancies.

Yeah.... I'm probably not going to pin/depin that monster. I looked at it while the door was apart and it's just ridiculous. I have a few circuits running to the door anyway, just have them running almost all the way down the molex, then entering the door right behind the monster plug so it can't be seen, I'll probably do the same with the keypad.
