Which would be louder:

- a single 12" sub rated at 800w rms and 1600w max

- dual 12" subs , each rated at 400w rms and 800w max

***both are in sealed boxes of same material

Assuming that the box size is calculated correctly for each, the material is similar etc....

I am trying to pair some subs with a Rockford Fosgate amp rated at 2400w max and 800w rms @ 4 ohms.

I am looking at either
- 2 Audiobahn 1251T's (400rms/800max) each
- 2 Rockford Fosgate HE2's (400rms/800max) each
- 2 Volfenhag ZX4712's (500rms/1000max) each
- 2 Volfenhag ZX4812's (600rms/1000max) each
- 1 Audiobahn 15" AW1500Q High Excursion (800rms/1600max)

I know the Audiobahn and Rockford's match the amps RMS and stay inside the max power, and both the Volfenhag's go over the RMS rating on the amp but stay at or below the max output. What do I do?

Also, how would I want to wire them? x2 2ohm in series OR x2 4ohm in parallel OR some other way?

AND... How can you tell if subs are a fake- like a set off ebay maybe? :ripped:

Thanks

I have a Audiobahn AW1005Q and thier A8002T amp (bridged at [email protected]). The sub is the one that they win all thier competitions with and was the best sub they made up untill the immortal series(quad voice coils) came out this year. I have the gain turned almost all the way down and at 1/4 volume it is clear and louder than my friends 400wRMS sub in a bandpassbox.

The volume is determined by the power reaching the subs, not by the power handling rating of the subs. But you shouldn't notice much of a difference between say one sub with 800W RMS and two subs with 400W RMS each.

What kind of music do you listen to?

If you are going to buy anything Rockford, look at the HX2 instead of the HE2. It's a much better woofer IMO. Audiobahn is just a bunch of shiny chrome.

Is the amp a mono amp? If so you want two 4 ohm woofers to give you a 2 ohm load. If its a 2 channel amp, you want two 2 ohm woofers (or two dual 4 ohm woofers that can be wired at 2 ohm each) so you can present each channel with a 2 ohm load.

Audiobahn is not just all chrome, if you look at the specs there is not one that fosgate is better in, one major factor is that they have horrible sensitivity
Sensitivity is only good for people who are looking for highest SPL per dollar. If you want something that sounds good, you are looking for things other than Audiobahn's inflated sensitivity ratings or power handling.

Audiobahn is ok but if you don't care about winning a chrome contest there are a lot of better subs out there. Not that Rockford is very good at making subs either.

good first post on this one alex, i was gonna post something to that effect earlier but didnt have time. only thing that i would change is the bit about the 2 channel amp. its always best to run your subs off of a single channel, if your amp is a 2 channel, bridge it.

when trying to decide whether to run single or dual, ohm load is key. a single 12 with 800 watts is going to be just as loud as(if not louder than) 2 12"s with 800 watts net. there is one factor that will affect this situation, but trust me, you dont need to worry about that.

also consider how much trunk space you want to give up. obviously 2 subs is going to take up alot more room than a single sub.

as far as your sub choices go, dont buy the volfenjunk, they are not good. the best ones that i see you listed are the audiobahns, and like said before, if you like shiny things then go for it. comparing fosgate and audiobahn isnt really fair. audiobahn is a much better company than RF, but that is really not saying a whole lot.

edit: alex, whats up with the aardvark?? silly canadian
