The 98 taurus I just got seems not working well on A/C. Especially in the afternoon when the temperature is high, the air comes out are not really ice cold. Is there any outlet temperature standard for the A/C?

While opening the hood, I found out the outcover of the pipe connecting the compressor is worn out and begins to peel off. Is that a big problem or could be a reason for the A/C not cold?

It's very likely that your AC could be low on refrigerant, the ac will still work, but just not as good as it should work.

If the hose is just peeling a little bit, it should be fine, but if it's pretty severe, replace it before you have any work done to the ac or it will most likely fail right after you spend the money to have the system recharged!

I just wondering how good is AC of Taurus supposed to work. Is there a outlet temperature standard for auto AC system?

It seems a leak in the system. So I have to check for leaks and fix it before recharge it, right?

Thanks
