I have a '97 GL and my compressed is not coming on. A few weeks ago I noticed that my system only cooled on max AC then it stopped all together. I thought the system might be low on freon so I had a friend help me add a can but the compressor still doesn't come on. I replaced the clutch in November last year after is seized and broke the serpentine belt twice. If at all possible, I really don't want to have to replace the compressor.

You need to get a set of gauges on it. NEVER "just add 134a and hope for the best". If pressures (hi and lo will be about the same with comp off) are above the turn on press of the cycling clutch switch (around 30 psi roughly) and comp doesnt run, remove connector from switch and short terminals. Does clutch run now and are pressures in range? If so, either the switch is bad, the AC relay is bad, the clutch air gap is too large, there is a coil problem (open / shorted) or there is a wiring problem.
