I am diagnosing a recent noise, I will verify tonight that it makes the noise with the A/C clutch both engaged and disengaged. I have a 2001 SE 3.0 U Vulcan motor Taurus. I'm wondering if it's possible to replace the clutch/bearing without removing the compressor and having to evacuate the system and recharge with r134a. There is a grinding noise coming from the a/c pulley area, i know there are 2-3 parts in the a/c clutch/regulator that can make noise. Any guidance would be appreciated. The car has 65,000 miles Thanks, CH

Yes, it's possible to replace the clutch without removing the compressor and evacuate the system.

In fact, it's much easier to do on a Vulvan than on a Duratec.
