I have a really nice 99 Sable with the Vulcan motor. Previous ouner overheated it and now the #5 cyl misses and the coolant smells like exhaust. Other than that it still starts and runs good. Is the gasket usually enough to fix this or can I ecpect other problems like a warped/cracked head or block. Also, How much trouble is this for a pretty good home mechanic?

I had to replace the head.

It was about as cheap to get a reman as have it rebuilt.

If I had to do it again I would just get a salvage head.

Wasn't a problem for my 99.

You have to buy new ones though because they are TTY
