I was driving about 65mph in cruise control, then the car like slipped out of gear as if i put it in neutral, and now will not go into anything other than park. The tranny fluid is a darkish greenish black, which leads me to believe transmission issues or something with the torque converter. It is undrivable so cant really take it to a shop. Any ideas?

The "greenish tint" is caused by brass filings suspended in the trans fluid, it's the reflection of the brass back through the fluid that makes it look green - black likely means the fluid is "burnt" - either way the trans is likely toast.

It could be the pump shaft. Is the fluid level very high with the engine running?

Fluid levels didnt change much at all when the car was started, i pulled some fluid out with a large syringe to inspect for any metal flakes and i couldnt see any, didnt think to smell it though to see if it smelled burnt. Im no mechanic, but i have a feeling the car is destined for the scrap yard

Have it towed to a mom and pop tranny shop for a rebuild?

I called a few to get an estimate, and what they want honestly wouldnt be worth it to me, sounds like it would be better to sell for parts if i cant fix it myself
