So, here's a quick question, brought on by a current thread...

When the 500 and Futura debut, will we be welcoming these cars into the Club? These are, in essence, the Taurii's replacements. (yes, I know all about the '09 date and the cars' differences.)

They are similar in size, give or take, performance, and mission.

They are FWD Ford sedans that will likely have the same owner's base as the Taurus/Sable occupies.

They use a similar chassis setup and the Duratec motor. The Futura, with it's stick and 220-hp 3.0L DOHC six, is the SHO's spiritual successor.

Do we welcome them, like we do with those pesky Sable and SHO owners,
or do we leave them? Modify ourselves and adapt/grow to the new kids on the block, or shun these foreigners out cold?

And no, the name doesn't have to be the "TFHFCCA."

What do you say?

My vote is to allow these guys into the club.. We allow non-Taurus owners in the club all the time. If we start turning people away, it will eventually made the club a lot smaller. We need numbers in order to made a case for the aftermarket folks to start taking sedans seriously.

The TCCA is a family with open arms. We invite and accept all, except those that are jealous of us and try to keep us down. Power to the People (of the TCCA)!!!!

Let them join, the more the merrier anyway. But keep it TCCA. All the new futura/500 owners need to know their roots.

I voted no cause neither are a Taurus or a Sable. If we let them in, then what bout the Contenental or the Jaguar s-type (i think)? they both have Duratechs in them... or what about the Hydrogen fuel cell car that Ford is working on, its engine is the Vulcan re-enforced. the cars are just too different to be allowed in a "Taurus" club, the engine alone doesnt make the car.

If we allow anyone with a Vulcan/Duratec/Essex, this expands the club to anyone who drives a Taurus, Sable, Cougar, Mustang, Thunderbird, Ranger, Aerostar, Contour, Various Mazda cars, ect...

This wouldn't make a case with the aftermarket parts to make parts for sedans because all these other types of cars will be in the club.

I don't think so. As an example, they haven't made Festivas since 1993 and there is a very large Yahoo Group that still likes to talk about them. Same with the Probe, thats been gone since 1997. But as time goes on, the clubs change a lot. Many people move on to other rides.

My thoughts are as this: Even though they aren't going to make taurus's after a couple years, doesn't mean people are going to stop driving them. Heck, people still drive gen1's and want to do stuff to them *looks in the mirror*. So I say as long as there are people who drive these cars, they need a specialized site for them. Adding 500 and futura will make it too confusing to find taurus related stuff. I'm not saying prevent those owners from joining, we've always accepted people with other cars (or no car at all), we just aren't going to make any special forums or sections for them.

I know i just started posting here a couple days ago. Alot of you make great points, what if it is just a club for Ford Sedans only. If it is made in a two door version (ex. focus) then not allow them since they already have manufactures making stuff for them.

Then you could have in the performance area when you click on it then u choose the car such as
Taurus/Sable
FiveHundred/ (its sister car)
Futura/ Mazda 6

And then when you choose that then it would go to the normal screen for the repective areas. I would be okay with this.
You forgot the Mercury version of the Futura, which will be called the Mont Claire. The Mercury Version of the Five Hundred is the Mercury Montego (see picture.)

Oh P.S. The Lincoln LS is not the same as a Five Hundred for the guy who mentioned it. The Lincoln LS is it's own platform. The Ford Thunderbird is based off of it.

Where did you get that information regarding the model name "Mont Claire"?

I have information that Ford recently registered the name "Mercury Milan." If the Futura's sibling is to be named Mont Claire, then "Milan" should be for the Freestyle's sibling.

P.S. Ford also registered Ford Mustang GT-R within a week after it registered Mercury Milan.

The LS is on the DEW-98 platform. Totally different than that of the front drive chassis the Taurus and Sable are on. Yes, the V6 model has almost the same 3.0L Duratec as the Taurus and Sable, but it is mounted normally and can be mated with that oh so great 5 speed I have.

I think it would get too confusing, let anyone who wants to join, I know that 500/futura people can learn alot from what we have done with the duratec here, and they are welcome to join in on engine discussions and everything else, but I don't want to see all kinds of new forums pop up for them, there will be too much stuff. and it will take longer to find the information you want that applies to your car. I say let them in, but not "officially" gotta vote no.

Pretty interesting. Most of the replies say no, but most of the votes are yes.
