Yup, just as the title states.... fortunately no fines yet. The 3L Contour didn't have a front plate or mount when I bought it, but it seems lately that Troopers and Sheriffs have been cracking down on this. It's just another reason to pull you over and try to catch you doing something wrong. In a car like the 3L Contour, cops don't need many excuses. So off to the salvage yard to find a front license plate mount. <_<

Luke,

The front bumper cover I bought from you didn't have a mount or holes for a plate either, and I don't plan on making them. I've gotten by with a plate in the windshield for a while, but I've heard of people getting fix-it tickets for that.

Let me tell you about plates in the windshield.................. :noes: :noes: :noes: :noes:

I had an old '71GMC P/U, with the front plate in the front window.
One day as I was sitting at a stop light, I got rearended by this old dude in a CV. Well, the damn plate went mid-air on my ass and damn near took my head off!!!! I know thats probably a rare instance, but it scared the hell outta me!! I would rather tell the cop/officer that the damn thing was probably stolen. :x:

Well, I guess if you're gonna "run dirty" you had better be prepared for the outcome. It happened today, coming from CiCi's pizza. Me Mark and Russell, in my Escort. I was stopped at a light, and sitting across from us was HPD, I took off and he swung around after me. The ONLY thing he could have possibly gotten me for was that damn missing plate!!!! I have good tags, we were all wearing our belts, I obviously was NOT speeding. In the six years I've owned this car, it's NOT ever had a front plate. I guess I'll have to try and find it tomorrow, and get a couple of frames, 1 for the Escort and 1 for the bull. It sucks balls to have to do this, but I sure don't need the hassel of being pulled over.

As for the bumper you bought from Luke, if you look real close, there are OR SHOULD BE 2 very small indentations on the front where the plate frame mounts to the bumper. I used to have to mount them when I worked at Ford. Even though it may "look" like **** to you, it IS required now, so, might want to at least think about it.

I went and bought 2 plate frames tonight. I'm going to mount them in the morning on both cars and get this **** dismissed
[/b]
That sucks... that ****** actually gave you a ticket?!?!

Cops around here rarely ticket for it, but they use it as an excuse to pull you over and check you out.

Sec. 502.404. OPERATION OF VEHICLE WITHOUT LICENSE PLATE OR REGISTRATION INSIGNIA.

A. A person commits an offense if the person operates on a public highway during a registration period a passenger car or commercial motor vehicle that does not display two license plates, at the front and rear of the vehicle, that have been:
1. assigned by the department for the period; or
2. validated by a registration insignia issued by the department that establishes that the vehicle is registered for the period.
B. A person commits an offense if the person operates on a public highway during a registration period a passenger car or commercial motor vehicle, other than a vehicle assigned license plates for the registration period, that does not properly display the registration insignia issued by the department that establishes that the license plates have been validated for the period.

Key word there is DISPLAY...it does not say it has to be mounted to the front bumper ! For future reference... http://www.tx-laws.com

Only reason why the state wants a front plate on the car in Texas is it puts something metal on the front of the car for radar to bounce off.

Oh and Rudy you only have a choise of 6 letters on Texas private plates.

Taking the front plate off is usually the first thing I do when I get a car. I got pulled over for it once, of course the cops were just fu**ing w/me. They had a "sting" setup at a 4-way stop to check for inspection and registration stickers and even though mine were current, I guess he couldn't resist messing w/the guy in the seafoam-colored Taurus w/the muffler and resonator cut off w/the dark a** windows. Just as the cop is going on and on about the plate a c5 Vette pulls up to the opposite sign. I point out to the officer that the Vette doesnt have a front plate, or even a place to put one(you know the Vette has that cover on the front where the plate goes that says "Corvette"). He turns and looks at the Vette, looks up in the air for a few seconds, looks back at me w/this hyper-frustrated look on his face and says, "sir, you have a good one, and be careful-there has been a lot of street racing going on around here" I give him a fake smile and kindly drive off.

Yeah, I'm sure this guy didn't have anything better to do. We were sitting at a light and making a turn, and he made a u-turn behind a car and came after me. It must be real suspisious to have 3 white guys in an '89 Escort, with a nice set of wheels. LOL I mean this damn thing didn't even come with a plate mount from the factory, it's from fucking Massachusetts!!!! I've driven it for 6 years with no plate at all, but that's ok, i'm going to put a screw in the hole and take a picture, and send it in, showing that there is a plate on it now. Send in my personal plate app. and then I'll permanently mount it.
I'm thinking...............PHKERZ

They will find anything they can to mess w/you sometimes. My friend has been driving around w/no inspection sticker since June 2006 and has yet to be pulled over but I get pulled over for the plate thing in the 2 miles from my parents' house to my house.

I'm sure he saw it as an excuse to check y'all out for other stuff... 3 white guys in an Escort with rims.... yep, y'all look like a car full of drugs!!!

I know that I've been pulled over in the Taurus because the cops suspect drugs. Big wheels, dark windows, bumping my beats..... DRUGS!! :glare:

Rudy I would call one of those investigative reporters from your local TV stations...see if they be intrested in running a story about your ticket and the wording of the TX law.
