My friend has a 91 Merc. Sable Wagon with the 3.8 and the thing just keeps stalling at red lights and some times in park. Other than that it runs fine (knock on wood) It has a new motor but i don't know how old it is. But today it was doing good it did not even stall, but my friend rase the idle sped a little thought so it runs at a little under 1k. But a question I have for my self is why does the 3.8 engine sound like raaaannnnnnnn.

Does the idle surge at all? Does it have any codes stored?

Check all the vacuum hoses for leaks. If they haven't been replaced yet, more than likely they are cracked and leaking. I had to replace all of mine on my '94 about a month ago. My car would idle poorly and constantly stall.

Yea sometimes the check engine light comes on. He said it use to flash when it came on, be now it just stays on. The car has it's good and bad days. like one time he had to jump my grand am off i would just died under any power lose. He will go to autozone soon to see what the codes are. Thanks for the info about the vacuum lines, but here is a question. Where are all the vacuum lines, I know nothing about the 3.8, it has alot more parts than my Grand Am
