I'm looking at doing some minor mods to my car (97' GL, 3.0L Vulcan), it sorta disgusts me when my friend beat me off the line with his neon which he put a little work into. I know some of the stuff is in t he faq, but I'm posting it anyways incase there's anything new thats not in the FAQ.

Here are some of the things I was thinking of, suggestions and comments would be great.

K&N High Flow Air Filter (What kind of differences will I notice, power, sound, anything?).

Bosch Platinum 4+ Spark Plugs (I have the regular Platinums, but I hear the 4+ give you a little more bang)

MSD Spark Plug Wires

Upgrade Exhaust System/Muffler (I don't want something that sounds like a soup can, but I do want it to give me a little more power, should I take the resonator off? I know it sounds better with it off, but will I lose back pressure)

I want to also Chip it, but someone told me I'm better off getting one of the things to program it, what is everyones opinion on this? I looked at the ones in the FAQ, but none of them seem like the proper ones for my car (when the links even worked)

As for performance, the only mod you mentioned that would do much of anything would be the chip. The tuner is better, because you can also use it to read and erase DTC's (the MIL light). You can also tweak parameters.

The K&N filter will help airflow slightly. It won't change your intake sound at all, though. I recommend searching for the intake silencer removal mod. That will give you a better sound.

DO NOT get the bosch +4's. Every TCCAer that has tried them has had very bad experiences. I personally use copper plugs that are 1 heat range colder. The copper doesn't last as long, but it conducts electricity better, and the colder heat range will help prevent detonation better.

If you want MSD plugs, you will have to get the ranger plugs. MSD doesn't make any specifically for the taurus, but the rangers use the same vulcan engine. I don't have any personal experience as to whether this will help you performance-wise.

I have completely removed my muffler, and I like the sound. I would suggest that you leave the resonator alone.

IF you want a chip or a tuner, I would strongly recommend American Motorsport (AMS). Alberto is hands-down the best programmer for the taurus. He also offers tuners.

I would also install an auxillary transmission cooler inline with your existing one. That will make sure that your trans doesn't blow up from MaD VuLcAn PoWa! lol...

He has a stick (which definately makes some difference), and the only mods he did were exhaust, high-flow air, and spark plugs. :(
