Hello Folks,

Thanks for the opportunity to ask this question.

A quick history: I purchased my 2000 Taurus SE Wagon in 10/03. It had approx. 39,000 mi. at that time. It is equipped with the 24 Valve DOHC Duratec Engine. It does not have the small square 24 Valve DOHC fender emblems on each fender. I wanted to know if Ford had any "convention" as to when they were applied to the vehicles, ie: on any Taurus with the Duratec engine, or was it certain model trims, or particular assembly runs. Here's why I ask. My Taurus was involved in a hail storm, (previous owner), that required the replacement (?) repair of the hood. There are still some "pock" marks on the roof. I am wondering if the fenders were replaced with "stock" parts and did not have the emblems replaced at the time of the repair. The dealer was forthcoming about the hail damage at the time of the sale and as for the pock marks, I can live with them, they are minor. So, why do I ask about the emblems? Well, I want to keep the car as original as possible. I have since purchased the two emblems and am hesitant to attach them to the fenders. If there is any way of knowing for sure if the emblems were there when the car rolled off the line, I will attach them. If they were not there to begin with, I'll leave them off.

Would anybody know if this can be found out? I tried contacting Ford and calling the dealer but neither can give me a definitive answer.

Thanks,

Lou, NY

What does it matter about the badging? :) It's just a name.. Make 'em think it's a slow wagon, and when you gun it.. they'll be beat by a Taurus... not only a Taurus... but a Taurus WAGON!

But anyway, I doubt the fenders would have been replaced as well, if just the hood was replaced... But if you want to put the emblems on, go ahead.. It wont hurt anything - you have the engine.

PS - Welcome to the club!

Maybe the previous ownder took them off? Or maybe after that hood replacement they fixed up the fenders and never reattached the emblems. I am 100% sure that all 2000+ Tauruses and Sables that had the Duratec came with a sticker on the fender, so go ahead and put em on. Or use Ashleys suggestion, that would really shock someone... Got any pictures of the car?

Look for the VIN numbers on the fenders. If you can't find them, then most cases they were replaced.

The dealer could have repainted the fenders as well and never put the badges back on. When i got rearended, the dealer said he would have to paint the rear fenders as well to blend the new paint in. It actually says "BLENDED RT/LT Fender" on the invoice. They say they do it just in case their is a slight variation in the paint color and they want to blend it in so it looks like matches (I wasn't paying for it, so I said go ahead). They could have done this and not reattached the badges. I say you have the duratec, you have the badges. USE 'EM AND LET 'EM KNOW WHAT YOUR PACKING!

OK, you guys are quickly convincing me to apply the emblems!!! So, I'll ask a dumb question. Aside from the obvious, ie: thoroughly clean the area on the fender where the emblem is to be attached, is there anything else I should do to ensure a nice and "permanent" adheasion?

Also, I guess I could go to a dealer and "eyeball" this, but does anyone have the exact measurements for the correct positioning on the fenders of these emblems? Am I being to anal about this? (Yes!)

Thanks, again,

Lou

I agree...let em' know what you've got under the hood. Most Taurii came with some sort of badging, except the straight Vulcans. The Duratecs and the FFV Vulcans definitely had badging on them, regardless of other option packages. You shoudl clean the area well with rubbing alcohol to make sure that there is NOTHING on the fender. I don't have the dimensions, but it shouldn't be that difficult to line them up properly. Heck, go to a parking lot and find another Taurus with a Duratec and park next to it and use the other car as a guide to line the badges up. You might get some wierd looks, but oh well, you have a Duratec and they don't!

Thanks, everybody. I appreciate your welcome and your humor!

One of these days I'll give you my extended history with the Tuarus. I previously owned a '92 GL Wagon that I picked up in '94 off a 2 year lease. It was a great car and I ran it up to 124,000 mi. It just started to implode. Things started going and it became too costly to save, thus my purchase of the '00. What a change! The "00 series are "Boss". Am I dating myself now?

Love the cars!

Lou
