I purchased my SHO with 80,000 miles on 12/3. I spent money and bought all new tires and alignment on 12/6. I’m running Hancook Ventus Noble brand tires. I had them on my 2013 Limited and they were great.

I’m developing a noise. No vibration at all. It sounds like tires to me. Very similar to the hummm of a jacked up Jeep rolling down the road on large tires. I get no vibration. It’s a definite pitch. Car drives smooth. I have driven the car hard into corners to see if the noise changes. It does not. It also does not change if I put the car in neutral and coast.

The tires have right at 2000 miles.

This is my first AWD. I don’t think it’s a bearing. Took it back to the dealer yesterday and had them rotated with an oil change. It “may” have become more noticible.

I’m still thinking tires and call Hancook tomorrow.

Should I be concerned??

Can you see any cupping, uneven wear, etc on any of the tires?

If your dealer is really cool, have them swap tires with a Taurus on their lot then drive it to see if the noise is gone, so you can diagnose whether it’s the new tires

I just put about 80 miles on it. It is in the back. Turning the car side to side - or hard side to side makes no difference. It comes in about 40, “humms” and that sound speeds up and slows down as I do. It seems not to get louder as I go faster. I can’t make the sound change other than the car going faster or slower.

I’m concerned about the AWD. The power unit is in the front - really, the only thing in the back is hub assemblies, right? Or, tires.

I would focus on the tires first. Have them road force balanced and make sure you get a true balance. Make sure nothing is out of round - rim or one of the new tires. If not that, then yes, it could be wheel bearing hub assembly. I just did both of the rear hub assemblies on mine. Typically, hub assemblies will give an alternating type hum, or constant roar, that starts at certain speeds and will get louder or quieter, speed dependent (kind of sounds like what you’re describing). Ask the dealer to put on chassis ears to determine the source of the noise. Hopefully, no charge given how recently you got it from them... let us know, good luck.

FWIW, i've replaced both rear wheel bearings in my Taurus. Neither one had any change in pitch or volume when turning. Just a constant whirring noise almost like a motorcycle pacing me in that rear corner.

I replaced several bearings on my 06' Five Hundred before passing it down with 215k on it. I had to do fronts and rears, some more than once.
