This is a weird question, but I've never had a car do this before. When I've got the cruise set and, say, go down a hill and the car starts going faster than what the cruise is set at the engine revs up.

It's like the car is using the engine to brake back down to cruise speed. This seems bad for the engine. Is this normal on this gen car? Otherwise, is there a fix?

You are correct. It is using engine braking to prevent excessive speed. I think it's more aggressive about it in sport mode. As long as it's not excessive, no need to worry about too much wear and tear. If you don't like it, stay out of sport mode and it will be minimal.

It's a very nice feature when you're driving in the mountains.
