My specs:
2008 Taurus SEL 134000 K
18 mpg city; 22-24 mpg highway ( keeping it at 75-80 mph )

Problem started with hard shift, banging into D and R, then loss of power, transmission stuck in high gear.

Scan turned up OSS ( outer speed sensor ) which I then had replaced: bad location, a job I couldn't do, $500

Problem reoccurred a couple times after new sensor installed Then I realized the positive battery cable probably hadn't been disconnected during repair. I was 200 miles from home when the transmission acted up again so I disconnected the cable to clear the code. 600+ miles later the car is driving like it just came off the lot.

Hope this helps anyone with similar problem. Replace the sensor AND clear the code.
