Just did the rear breaks on my 2008. Looking at the contact are on the new rotor it seems like the new pad is not sitting flat. Could I have done something wrong? I'm wondering if the little stud sticking out of the back of the pad needs to be in one of the groves on top of the brake piston. Job went pretty smooth and I've done a bunch of brake jobs in the past.

Yes, *** on back of inboard pad needs to be aligned with piston notch. Also make sure slide pins are cleaned and lubed, not dry and seized.

Yup, not having the brake pad stud lined up with the caliper piston groove was the problem. Thought I had it lined up the first time but apparently not.
