Hello. I have a 2006 Five Hundred here with about 40,000 miles on it. I thought that being closely related to the new Taurus, it must have a similar power steering system. My power steering fluid is original and looks very dark. I am thinking of flushing it using the Motorcraft Mercon V ATF fluid. Any ideas if this is THE "Mercon ATF" fluid the Ford 500 manual talks about? What is the fluid capacity? Thanks..

You can change the fluid yourself using a soap pump or turkey baster:

Using the method in the link, you don't have to worry about buying a lot of fluid ahead of time. I don't know how much the Five Hundred uses, but the older cars has about 2.5 quarts in the entire system. You're safe using Mercon V.
