I've been trying to track down a P0300 and P0316, and I noticed I am hearing a slight popping or tapping coming from the throttle body. It's not like a valve tap, and it the frequency sounds random, but it's fairly constant.
Try cleaning out the throttle body, esp the butterfly valve, when they get dirty it can cause p0300's, check the topic finder on the how-to-do cleaning throttle body. Ford also has a software update if your Taurus has a unsteady hot idle. My '07 Taurus always made a gurgle sound from the intake, it did that from day 1, and most '04+ Vulcan engines do gurgle at hot idle.
thanks. I was actually doing a TB clean when I noticed the noise - as a last ditch effort before changing the coil pack. I'll look for the cleaning procedure but I just sprayed the hell out of it then cleared all codes. Looks much cleaner - we'll have to wait and see if the codes return.
