I have a 2005 Taurus. For some reason this morning I am stuck in park.

The column shifter will move if I press the brake, but it remains in park regardless of what I set it to. I checked the linkage and it does not appear to be broken. I move the shifter on the column and it moves the other end on the engine.

I've also confirmed my brake lights are working. I hit the brake and all three come on in the back.

I'm not sure of anything else to check before I try calling a mechanic. Any ideas?

Yes, there is fluid on the dipstick of the transmission. Mostly translucent and a bit pinkish.

All other fluid levels look okay.

Posting a follow up in case anyone else has this problem.

Car is at the mechanic now. The transmission pump and gone bad and I think damaged the transmission. Have to get a new transmission or a new car.

Really, all you need is a torque convertor and possibly a pump shaft if the splines are worn.
