Hello, all! Hopefully I have what will not be yet another typical VSS/OSS question...

I have a 2005 Taurus SEL w/ a DOHC & AX4N with about 146k miles and the transmission was rebuilt at 100k miles. With about 130k miles on the car I started having the hard 1st to 2nd shift problem once the transmission got warm so I replaced the OSS with a Motorcraft DY1210 which seemed to solve the problem. Now at 146k miles I'm getting the same hard 1st to 2nd shift once hot.

I used a Motorcraft part hoping it would last a while because, frankly, changing the OSS on the Duratech is a royal PITA. Is it likely the "new" OSS has failed and causing the same problems again? Is there something else I should be looking for before I replace it again?

On a side note I change the fluid and filter every 25k miles (not a flush, just a pan drop). The fluid is at the appropriate level and pink.

Thanks for your advice.

What condition is the cooler and lines in. To me it almost sounds like the cooler is partially blocked.

I haven't checked the coolant lines themselves but I can double check this weekend. Are you concerned about rust? I'm in FL so road salt and rust is essentially non-existent.

No not rust, just a buildup in the lines can restrict tranny fluid movement, or even a internal collapse, and cause a overheating issue with the trans. I had a simalar problem on my envoy 3 years ago, and the radiator transmission pass thru has a slight metal deviation in it, and caused a buildup over the years, which restricted fluid flow. It eventually burned out my 2nd gear.

To check the line would I simply check for flat spots where it appears to have collapsed? If so I'll check the lines for damage.

Any other thoughts on potential causes other than the OSS and physical line damage?

Thanks again for your help.
