"2005 Mercury Sable

Mercury will build the Sable replacement using a brand-new Mazda chassis. The move is planned for the 2004-05 model year. Here's how it goes down. Taurus and Sable will give up their assembly plant in Chicago to make room for the new crossover vehicle. Then, all Taurus manufacturing will be done in Atlanta, which currently builds both Taurus and Sable models. That move leaves no room for the Sable on the Atlanta assembly line. So, the Sable replacement will be built in the Mazda plant in Flat Rock, Mich. Since the Mazda6 will be an all-new car by the time the Sable replacement comes on line, Sable will get all the benefits of the Mazda improvements."

This might be really cool. Are the Taurus and the Sable destined to become truely different cars?

Thats interesting, first they suggest that the sable is gone after this year, but now they are suddenly contemplating putting it on a mazda 6 platform.. I don't think so, yet, but if it does happen, then perhaps it would end up like the cougar, it lived a few years longer, then was finally put to rest

The Sable will be renamed either Milan or Montclair. It's going to be like the twin to the Fusion...thats why it says

It's part of the group of cars being done on the 6 platform...the Lincoln Zeypher...Mercury Version, Montclair or Milan, and Ford Fusion.

The Sable is going to be dropped. Ford has stated this in public. It was said like this by Motor Trend.

"Sable goes by 2006 letting the Taurus go it's own way until atleast 2009." The Taurus is supposed to have a "substatial update-more significant than the one recieved in 2004 in the 2006 model year." Which means we could see this in fall of 2005 as a 2006 model. (The redesigned Taurus.)

sounds like they are still letting the Sable go to rest. But bringing out another vehicle to mimmic it's old ways. Interesting. I have always respected Mazda, so Ford went in the right direction... LOL

Sable is gone for 05 AFAIK, replacement is the Mercury Montego - based on Ford Five Hundred.

So the 500 and the Montego are going to be bigger then the Taurus.. The Fusion and whatever the Mercury version is, will be smaller then the Taurus...

Is that how its going to be? So in reality, there will be no direct replacement for the Taurus once it leaves in 2009.

Did I miss something? This topic has been beat to death.
