Thought I would share info on what I did last weekend to my 06 Taurus SE since this seems to a popular question about the airbag light, dash solutions, etc on 04-07 Taurus (and even 00-03.)

Headunit: Pioneer DEH-2200UB - CD Receiver with iPod® Direct Control and USB Input
Got at Walmart with four 6.5" speakers (sold speakers to a friend) on clearance for only $60 for my Taurus. Nothing fancy but has CD text, auxiliary port, and USB port, and a pair of preamp outputs, 20x4 RMS, good enough for me. Sounds great, but I need better speakers. That's next weekend's project... 6x9's in rear deck... YES IT CAN BE DONE!

Dash kit: Metra 99-5717 for 04-07 Taurus/Sable with airbag light, rotary dial heat/AC unit.
Found it on Ebay new (clearance) for $30.
Running the speaker wiring harness from trunk mounted radio control unit (RCU) was unnecessary pain but worth it I guess.

Good install I guess, but I wish someone would come up with an alternative to that ugly Metra kit. The head unit looks great, and the install looks clean, but the way Metra built their kit, it just looks like a flat piece of plastic. I think Metra did the color, shape and texture wrong. Perhaps if they put some curves and shape to it, so it would blend and flow with the rest of the interior better.

That alone is one of the single biggest reasons I run the stock system with a PIE adapter on my '96. That and my '96 has climate control, which there are not aftermarket solutions that I could find without converting to manual controls.

I just think if Metra made the unit curve around so it wasn't so flat, and the plastic had a smoother texture. Nothing wrong with your instal job though, you did great, I guess I'm just bugged that Metra made a kit and said, well thats good enough, instead of following through and making it look nice.

At least the Metra looks better than the Schoche kit. Better quality too. I don't know if American International makes Taurus kits, but at least on Escorts, they looked the best of any of the available dash kits. Smooth finish.

Looks Like a complete kit to me, looks the same as the Scoche kit though just re-packaged under a different name ?

Sorry to revive this thread. I just bought the Metra dash kit for my 2007 Taurus and I'm trying to install the wiring harness. I ran the wires to the trunk, but the power cable end doesn't appear to fit onto the end of the cable in the trunk?

Should be connected at the RCU at the back then color match the wires up front with the ones for the aftermarket deck.
