Hi Folks,

My son just got a 2002 Taurus SES. I need to replace the radiator and have been reading thru the posts on the site but can't find one that specifically addresses radiator replacement for this model year (I did find a HowTo at this link http://www.taurusclub.com/forum/82-maintenance-repair/92194-rad-replacement.html but my Taurus looks nothing like this under the hood).

If anyone knows how to remove the radiator any advice would be much appreciated. I am beginning to suspect that the removal is accomplished from underneath the vehicle but unfortunately my limited repair skills do not allow me to see how I might go about performing this task.

Additionally, this car also has what seems to be the quite common heating core clogging issue. I have been told that when I replace the radiator I should also flush the whole engine and heating core. Is the HowTo at http://www.taurusclub.com/forum/98-...29385-writeup-clinton-gen-3-heater-flush.html applicable to a Gen4/2002 also? If so will it look the same as the pictures in that HowTo?

Thanks in advance for any consideration on giving me some insight into how to go about performing these tasks. cd

Yes, radiator comes out the bottom. Iirc, you need about 22-24" in. clearance. Again, iirc, someone accomplished this by using car ramps. Also, you need 3/8" disconnect tool for the atf radiator cooling lines. There was a recent thread (how-to) on this topic. You might click on the search feature or topic finder at the top of this page. And yes, the clinton flush should be similar on your car.

if you have the extra money i would replace the water pump while you are in there. use premix when replacing the coolant.
