Just noticed that my theft indicator is lighting slowly, about every two seconds, whenever the engine is off? When I start the car it lights for two/three seconds then goes off, car starts and runs fine. Is it normal for that light to always be blinking when the engine is off? If it was doing it before, I hadn't noticed it.

thanks,

Yup, that is the "theft deterrent" light. It's supposed to scare away car thieves because they see you have a car alarm. Almost all the new cars have this, but there are even "fake" theft deterrent lights you can buy and stick on your dash if you don't have an actual car alarm. All it does is blink a red light. It also comes with generic car alarm stickers you can put in your windows. Check it out:

I have no idea if thieves would actually buy this, but I'm sure it would fool someone.
