I have a 2002 Taurus and I just noticed a fuel tank leak. I had a peak under the car and saw that the leak was at the rear bottom of the tank (visible corrosion). I am interested in replacing the tank myself and wondered if anyone had any advice. I used the 'Topic Finder' and found a topic on 'Fuel tank replacement' but it was only for model years up to 1998 or so. Is this I job I should be trying to take on myself. (I'm a fairly handy guy and have done several small repairs on my cars before)

Any advice would be greatly appreciated!! Thanks :D

I just did the tank in my '00 wagon due to rust. It seems '00 to '03 are known to rust out.
Not a bad job if your good with a wrench, pre soak the mounting bolts and the strap pins a lot before hand. Tank strap bolts go into clips and I'm glad I pre soaked them well so they came out and were reusable.
Rock Auto had new straps cheap and figure a new fuel pump while it's apart. I had 190k on mine and it sounded/ran fine but dropping the tank is a one shot job in my book.
Did mine in 2.5 hrs with a buddy and 3 beers.
