my 2001 taurus se with the 3.0L V6 vulcan engine is having a problem thats driving me crazy. for a few days there was a humming noise that was just a bit louder than the normal engine sound that wouldnt go away. now i cant really hear the humming but my temp gause doesnt work. i know my engines not overheating and theres enough coolant. i thought id start cheap and got a coolant temp sensor from autozone. i dont know where the sensors located on the engine and how to replace it if i got the right one. picked up the normal temp range sensor. any help would be greatly appreciated.

The CTS is located near the thermostat housing and is identified by a two-way gray connector. The temp sending unit (the one that operates the dash gauge) is located next to it and has a single brown connector. Good Luck!
