I have a 2001 Taurus wagon 3.0 engine with 70,000 miles.
engine area vibrates or rumbles intermitently only when a/c is turned on.
Blows cold air, A/C system checked twice by dealer, replaced ignition coils, plugs, and wires.
Any help much appreciated.

Turning on the A/C puts added load on belt driven components. Could be a bearing on one of the belt driven pulleys. Assume dealer would have eliminated the clutch/brg assembly on the a/c compressor as the problem?

If it makes a rattling sound (like the heat-shield is loose) it might very well be the water-pump. See Haynes section 3.7.
