Just wondering if my 2000 Taurus could have a computer chip in the key. I got a duplicate made at ACE and the guy said not to put it in the ignition because it could wreck my cars computer. Just wondering if this is possible. The key is just a big key, silver on the key side and a big rubber grip that says FORD.

yes you have pats. its a system that wont let your car start unless you have a coded key. if you try to start your car with that key you will cause a no-start condition

all 2000+ taurus/sables have pats some 96-99's had it.

to make a real copy of the key, you need two keys. if you don't it will cost a bit to make a spare.

Putting the unprogrammed key in the ignition will not wreck your computer, just so you know. It just won't start, that's all.
