It seems I've had this come and go.
Warm and cold starts.
Starts up and then RPM drops right back down to zero.

any ideas or faqs to point me to?

Clogged Catalytic Converter or exhaust restriction? You can pull a O2 Sensor or two to test or use a vacuum gauge if it runs long enough. how long does it run before dying?

almost instantly or within a few seconds.

yes. I will check what the codes are.

Dumb question:
OK how do I hold the throttle slightly open?
I need pics and or step by step. I will search...


Additional info:
I drove the car dangerously low on fuel AND I parked on my steep driveway outside last night. It was probably the coldest night last night too.
I decided to put in about 2 gallons of gas just now via gas can. It still does not start, it just keeps cranking.

Nevermind the new posting.

Place foot on throttle.
Feel where idle is.
Press approx 1/2 inch
Start engine

This should hold it about 1500 RPM

Could possibly be a wak fuel pump or clogged injectors

OK I will try that!
I will listen for fuel pump.

I just replaced IAC valve and gasket. Still no dice.

I also opened the throttle body a few times, seems to move OK.

HELP!
I just picked it up Friday with a rebuilt transmission.... AHHHH!

OK I can hear the fuel pump. Even had my wife listen too and she hears it.

I tried that other thing, I am not sure about "Feel where idle is"?????

So I moved my car from the steep driveway to the street....
started up fine.
I still notice a bit of a rough idle or something going on while sitting at a light.
Perhaps clean/replace EGR?
