Okay, I tried searching the forums and what not to find an answer to this but I couldn't. So I need to replace my mirror on my driver on my 1995 Taurus SE and I think I found all of the screws I need to remove on the door panel but I can't quite figure out how to take it off without potentially breaking it. I can't quite figure out if I need to lift up and pull out or pull out and lift up or something completely different, I've never had a door panel this stubborn before.

Any help would be appreciated because I have to change the mirror either tonight or tomorrow morning so I can take care of my "fix it" ticket that I waited to the last minute to do...

on my 94 (so prob your 95) there are 6 (im pretty sure) screws holding the door panel on...remove these (and the ones holding the door handle on), then pry around the edges of the panel with a putty knife or similar non lethal object ;) and the panel should pop right off - pull straight out! pulling up, down, sideways, longways, front ways, or any other way will bust those plastic clips...you may end up breaking one of the plastic clips (there are a bunch), but it won't make a huge diff - mine has one, maybe 2 broken (by the prev owner), and it isnt really a big deal...

Cool, I have had panels that had to pull different ways, so I was wondering which way to pull with breaking least amount of clips. I will give it a try tomorrow and hopefully it works.

Here's how it goes:

1. remove upper triangular piece from door (one screw).
2. remove the lowest screw on the pnael. it will be around 2" long and is in the hole just above the map pocket.
3. remove window switch. for complete panel removal, unscrewthe two little screws around a inch long and CAREFULLY lift the switch plastic up and out.
4. remove the screw inside the grab handle on the panel. around 2.5" long.

It's 5 total. as for the bundles of connectors, gently pry on the push clips locking them into each other. a flat screwdriver works well for this. Pry and pull.

Heres a pic i found with all required screws hilighted in red. remove them using a #2 philips screrwdriver, and VERY, VERY gently pry the christmas tree clips until the panel comes off in your hands. once you do it, you'll know how to for other things like speaker upgrade.

I've taken my front panels off a number of times for various reasons, and in the process I've destroyed the **** out of those clips.

That's why I bought a box of these off eBay, and it solved my problem of shaky, rattly door panels.

These look like the clips I need but I really need the grommets they clip into. The ones on one of my doors are missing, or broken so the trim is loose. Any info would be appreciated.

you guys kick ass i locked my keys inside my car and this guy said he could get my car door unlocked with a coathanger for free rather than paying a towing company. ended up screwing my door handle on the inside (i can't open the car door when im inside) so i am gonna take off my car door panel tomorrow and see if i can't fix the problem.

If anyone had a similar problem i'd appreciate any tips. Thanks guys.

i did it, most hamfisted as humanly possible but my car is old and has been in alot of cold winters and hot summers so i think i did reasonably well.

For the sake of documentation i decided to show the opposite side of the door panel so you know where everything is that you need. thanks again gents. (fyi this took quiet abit of force for me to remove the panel, the top ones near the lock are a bitch. )

NAPA has the push-retainer for Gen 1 & 2 door panels in an (8) pack,
P.N. 665-2057 (Balkamp) $5.09.

Or a (25) pack, P.N. 665-2058 (Balkamp) $12.74.

I bought some today and they worked fine.

On both a Gen 1 and Gen 2 I was looking at today, neither required any kind of bushing in the door for the retainer to lock in to. Both just push into a hole in the metal door frame.

Here's what I did today to reduce interior rattles about 75%. This was done without removing the door panels:

-Bought a pack of door panel retainers.
-Removed the two screws in each rear door panel.
-Carefully pulled the panel out at the top (the retainers were bad), reached in and removed the three worn out retainers at the top of each rear panel. Retainers slide sideways to remove.
-Installed new retainers and popped the panels back in place. Re-installed the panel screws.

-Removed the (3) screws from each of the front door panels. I did not remove (2) screws holding in the window/door lock controls, since I did not remove the panel.
-Carefully pulled the panel out at the top (the retainers were bad), reached in and removed the three worn out retainers at the top of each rear panel.
-Installed new retainers and popped the panels back in place. Re-installed the panel screws and replaced the missing screws.
-On all the door panels, the screws were either loose or missing.
-Removed about $1.00 in loose change from the coin tray. (My instant rebate from the PO. LOL)
-Road test car and found it much quieter than before.

This entire job, including learning curve took less than an hour. (Does not include the trip to buy the retainers) Beats watching TV..........

I just recently pulled all 4 door panels off my 92 lx wagon. Went to Advacnce Auto picked enough push pins to replace all of them. No more rattles, or anything. Replaced my driver's inner door handle while I was in there.

If you're in a hurry to get new door panel retainers, and don't care about paying more than some online sources, you can find them at Autozone, O'Reilly, etc. For the Gen 2 Taurus, in my area (the California SF Bay Area), I've found nearly identical replacements there. When I bought some a year or two ago, they were in packages of 6, made by Needa Parts Mfg., part number 454750 (I think each package was about $6). When I checked on the Autozone website just now, I don't see any from Needa, but they seem to have been replaced by what appears to be an identical Dorman part 963-010, qty 15 per package for $3.99, which is more of them, and cheaper, than the packs of 6 that I bought.

I don't know if these work in any other generation Taurus, but they might.
