For a while now I've noticed when I really get on the accelerator the transmission seems to surge from 1st into second. Almost like it hangs for about a split second before shifting into gear. All of the others seems fine and smooth all the time. Occasionally I also notice that when I put the car in reverse it takes about a second to engage. I'm just wondering what could cause this and what I can do to prevent a blown transmission. I was thinking about changing the trans fluid but heard pros and cons with doing this. Any other ideas? The car has about 92,000 miles and sat for about 4 years prior to me taking ownership of it.

change the fluid with a pan dump and refill, look at the color, if it's black then change it now and in another 10,000 miles, a clogged filter with produce a rough 1-2 shift...
