1992 Taurus Engine Reliability; Ac Question

I bought a 1992 Taurus V6 new in 1991 and sold it to my father-in-law a couple years later. He had it in the shop recently and overheard some mechanics talking about "Taurus engine problems". This concerned him, and now he is wondering if he should trade it in for a new car or hold on to it. It only has 65,000 miles on it...

1. Has there been any serious engine problems with the V6 engine that Taurus used in 1992? In other words, does he have anything to worry about or has this been a reliable engine?

2. The only other problem he is experiencing is when the AC is in the "vent" mode (no AC or heat on, just unaltered air) the temp gauge climbs way up, but not to the extent of overheating. I could not find any TSB's addressing this issue other than one about the temp gauge showing high readings.

Thanks,
Tmilous

i had a similar problem as quoted above in my 95 taurus, it was just my heater hose had a leak in it and i lost all my coolant. my temp gauge never went into overheating, but i also caught it early. check that/ure coolant levels
I think the 3.8L had a problem with blowing head gaskets.
If the car has the 3.0L, then the car should be fine. The 3.8L has been known to eat headgaskets and that is most likely the engine the mechanics at the shop were talking about.
